How picks are made

Every guide starts from a reader's question, such as "what can I play in five minutes" or "what is like Minecraft but different". We then describe each candidate against the same criteria:

• Play style: what you actually do in the game, for example building, surviving, exploring, competing or solving puzzles.
• Platform: whether the game has an official listing on the App Store, Google Play or both.
• Controls: taps and drags, a virtual joystick with buttons, or support for a controller where the official listing says so.
• Time commitment: short matches or rounds, runs you can pause, or long sessions where progress builds up.
• Price model: a one-time purchase or free to download with in-app purchases or ads. Price is one criterion among these, not the main one.
• Availability: the game must be listed on its store on the check date. When a game's last store update is old, we say so.

Each pick gets a short "who it suits" and "limits" note, because no game fits everyone. Facts (developer, platforms, price model, features) come from official sources; these notes are our editorial reading of those facts.

What sources we use

For every game we name, we check the official name, the developer or store publisher, the platforms, the price model and whether it is still available, using:

• the game's official website or the developer's official game page,
• the official App Store and Google Play listings,
• official documentation and support guides from the developer.

We link to those official pages directly. We do not link to wikis, fan sites or affiliate aggregators as sources.

Current check date: 21 September 2026. Store prices, features and availability change, so the store page is always the final word.

What we do not do

• We do not publish star ratings, scores, player counts or download numbers.
• We do not claim hands-on tests of other studios' games. Descriptions are based on official information and public documentation.
• We do not rank our own game.
